All Muslims around the world celebrate Isra and Mi’raj on the night of 27 Rajab. An important event in the history of Islam took place on this night. This incident is about the miraculous journey of Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) from Makkah to Bayt al-Maqdis and from there to heaven.
According to Islamic traditions, this blessed journey was completed in part of a single night, in which the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) was guided by Hazrat Gabriel (A.S) – this journey consists of two stages, the first stage is called Isra, in which the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) traveled from Makkah Masjid al-Haram to Masjid al-Aqsa i.e. Bait al-Maqdis, on a horse called Burraq.
And the second stage is called Mi’raj, in which the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) visited the heavens and met with various prophets and this time Allah has given a gift of five times of prayers to the Muslim Ummah. This event is mentioned in the Holy Qur’an, in the first verse of Surah Al-Israa.
This event has an even greater spiritual significance for Muslims who emphasize faith, worship and God’s mercy. Special gatherings are held in Masjid and Islamic centers around the world where scholars highlight the lessons of the Night of Miβraj and many Muslims spend this holy night in worship and prayers.
